Pennie ("we", "our", "us") is committed to protecting your personal data. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the rights you have. Pennie is operated by Algiva (Gilles Vanstraelen), Belgium.
1. Who we are
Pennie is a personal-finance tracking app and we are the data controller for your personal data. For any privacy question, contact us at info@meetpennie.app.
2. What data we collect
Account information — your name (username) and email address, provided at registration.
Financial information — the income, expenses, investments, balances, goals and net-worth data you enter manually. Pennie does not connect to your bank; you log only what you choose.
User content — the messages you send to the in-app AI assistant, and the descriptions and notes you add to entries and goals.
Identifiers — a user ID that identifies your account, and a device identifier used to deliver push notifications.
Purchase history — your subscription status (e.g. Pennie Elite), to unlock paid features and prevent duplicate charges.
3. How we use your data
To provide the app — show your overview, entries, goals and stats; sync across your devices; power the AI assistant; and manage your subscription.
To personalise your experience — tailor insights, tips and the assistant's answers to your own data.
We do not use your data for advertising, and we do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
4. Legal basis (GDPR)
For users in the EU, we process your data under contractual necessity (Art. 6(1)(b)) to deliver the app you signed up for, and our legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f)) to keep the app secure and stable. You can object to the latter at any time.
5. Where your data is stored
Your data is stored securely with Supabase on EU servers, with encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest, and Row-Level Security so only your authenticated session can access it. Passwords are hashed with bcrypt and never stored in plain text, and your financial entries are additionally encrypted so they stay private.
6. Third parties we work with
We do not sell or rent your data. We share the minimum necessary with the following processors, under data-processing agreements:
Supabase — database and authentication.
RevenueCat — subscription and purchase management.
Anthropic (Claude) — processes the questions you send to the AI assistant to generate a response.
Apple and Expo — app distribution and push notifications.
None of these use your data for their own advertising.
7. How long we keep your data
We keep your data for as long as your account exists. If you delete your account — in the app, or at meetpennie.app/#delete-account — all your data is permanently and irreversibly deleted.
8. Your rights (GDPR)
You can access and export your data, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to certain processing, and lodge a complaint with your national data-protection authority (in Belgium, the GBA). To exercise a right, use the app or email info@meetpennie.app.
9. Security
All communication is encrypted over TLS/HTTPS.
Passwords are hashed with bcrypt — we never see them.
Row-Level Security means only you can access your data.
Your financial entries are encrypted.
10. Children's privacy
Pennie is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Significant changes will be announced in the app.
By creating an account and using Pennie, you agree to these Terms of Service. Please read them carefully. If you do not agree, do not use the app.
1. What Pennie is
Pennie is a personal-finance tracking application that lets you log income, expenses and investments, set savings goals, and view financial statistics. Pennie is a tool for personal use only and does not constitute financial advice.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 16 years old to use Pennie. By registering, you confirm you meet this requirement; if you are between 16 and 18, you confirm you have parental or guardian consent.
3. Your account
You are responsible for keeping your account credentials confidential and for all activity under your account. Notify us immediately at info@meetpennie.app if you suspect unauthorised access. You agree to provide accurate information at registration; accounts created with false information may be terminated.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
Use the app for any unlawful purpose.
Attempt to reverse-engineer, hack, or compromise the app or database.
Create accounts for others without their consent.
Use the app to store data belonging to other individuals without consent.
Attempt to access another user's data.
5. Subscriptions & payments
Pennie offers an optional auto-renewable subscription, Pennie Elite, which unlocks additional features. Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase. The subscription renews automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage or cancel it any time in your Apple Account settings. Prices are shown in the app before purchase.
6. No financial advice
Pennie does not provide financial, investment, tax or legal advice. All content and calculations in the app are for informational and personal-tracking purposes only. Consult a qualified professional before making financial decisions.
7. Data & privacy
Your use of the app is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference. We process your data in accordance with the GDPR.
8. Data accuracy
All financial data in Pennie is entered manually by you. We are not responsible for the accuracy of the data you enter, or for any decisions you make based on it.
9. Service availability
We aim to keep Pennie available at all times but cannot guarantee uninterrupted access. We may perform maintenance or updates that temporarily affect availability, and are not liable for any loss caused by unavailability.
10. Intellectual property
The Pennie app — including its design, code and branding — is our intellectual property. You are granted a personal, non-transferable licence to use the app for your own personal-finance tracking. You may not copy, distribute, or create derivative works.
11. Account termination
You may delete your account at any time from the app or at meetpennie.app/#delete-account. Upon deletion, all your data is permanently removed. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.
12. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Pennie is provided "as is" without warranties. We are not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential damages arising from your use of the app, including loss of data or financial decisions made using app data.
13. Governing law
These Terms are governed by Belgian law. Any disputes shall be submitted to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Belgium.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms from time to time and will announce significant changes in the app. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
